Will Trucks Go Through Belarus? /17.12.2009
Customs Union Between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan will make transportations through Latvia less attractive for consigners and forwarders, believes Mr. Valdis Trazinsh, the President of "Latvijas Auto", Road Transport Association
Mr. Trazinsh fears that part of transportation flows could be oriented through Belarus. ‘Latvia together with Lithuania and Estonia – are internal borders of the EU. These countries are attractive for transit transportations as there is no need for visas if compared to transportation through Belarus. But the situation will change after the Union is finally created.
According to Mr. Trazinsh, at least 25% of transportations will go through the new transport corridor, that’s why Latvia should take measures that will keep the direction attractive.
