Multimodal Transportation
Multimodal transportation does not simply imply the use of several types of transportation, including that by road, sea, railroad and air. Organization of multimodal transportation involves the entire transport infrastructure, be it terminals, consolidation warehouses, ports, airports or something else, which requires the highest extent of coordination from all of those involved in the logistics process.
Sea and Multimodal Container Transportation (FCL)
Marine container transportation is one of the core STA Logistic’s activities. We have an extensive experience in transporting containers from different countries of the world, including China, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, UAE, Turkey, Egypt, USA, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, etc.
Every month our employees in Belarus, Russia and Lithuania organize transportation of hundreds of containers through various transit ports, the most important of which are Klaipeda, Riga, Tallinn, Kotka, Saint-Petersburg, Novorossiysk, Nakhodka, Vladivostok.
Having our own agents in the key regions of the world, along with direct contacts to the leading marine transportation lines helps us provide our customers with a reliable, fast and informed service at a market price, or at a contract value established individually based on all the unique peculiarities of specific businesses.
We are prepared to offer container transportation not only when it is obviously required, but also in situations, where no alternatives seem to exist but a regular truck. Cargos from Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, Germany and other EU states can be transported in containers in the same amount, with a slight difference in delivery terms, but undoubtedly at a lower cost. Besides, containers are always available, and can be loaded on the day the order is placed, or on the next day.
We offer various combinations of transport and services within container transportation, including the following:
- marine transportation of goods from a door in the USA to the Klaipeda port, further road transportation of the container to our customs terminal in Vilnius, where the cargo is unloaded under personal supervision of our staff, and can be further repackaged, labeled and sent within the LCL cargo to the destination point by road;
- a mixture of air transportation and subsequent road transportation, which helps to deliver fast, but at a lower cost if compared to the direct delivery by air;
- a mixture of marine and railroad transportation best fitted for transportation of large cargos at a lower cost than if transported by road.

We are vastly experienced in transporting not only the standard equipment types, but also special containers designed to transport out-of-gauge, heavy lift, bulk and perishable cargos (open top, hard top open top, flatrack, refrigerator, curtainsider, palletwide, flexi tank, etc.).
Multimodal LCL Transportation
If what you need is to deliver a relatively small cargo - 1 to 30 cubic meters in volume or 100 kg - 10 tn – from remote countries, like China, Taiwan, USA, etc., we will transport it at a lower cost than if you were to order a full-container-load, by simply putting it together with the cargos being delivered to the same destination. We do this using the services offered by our reliable world partners, and our own LCL cargos delivery line. In any case, the result is the low delivery cost, high cargo safety and delivery terms comparable to those for full-container-load cargos.
Multimodal Project Transportation (Out-of-Gauge and Heavy Lift Cargos)
Not every type of cargo can be transported using standard means of transport, say, a standard container. Besides any standardization involves also a number of limitations with respect to:
- weight;
- dimensions (length, width, height);
- loading method (lift on/lift off only, roll on/roll off only), etc.
Building equipment, loaders, transportation devices, industrial equipment, industrial containers and turbines – all of these and other similar cargos often require a special approach to transportation.
In this case the task of the freight forwarding agent is to select the right option from the variety of combinations or to develop a new method for delivery of this cargo. For example, an out-of-gauge cargo can be transported to the same destination with the help of a special container (flatrack, opentop), with a lead Ro-Ro ship, as bulk cargo, or using any other available option.
Certainly, this type of transportation, relies hugely on the human factor, that is on the expertise, experience, negotiation skills, knowledge of the specific aspects of this or that means of transport, port, region of the world and other aspects.
